The “Asociación de Concesionarios de Obras de Infraestructura Pública A.G.” (COPSA) gathers the main concessionary companies of infrastructure works and public services, which are granted by the state. This association was founded in 2000, in the interest of becoming a valid link between the concessionary companies and the community. |
COPSA A.G. has an experienced management team with outstanding professionals from the concessionary sector. This has allowed the association to become a leader in the industry and one of the main representatives before the community and the government. |
The association was founded to support and work with the Concessions Law promulgated in 1996, created to solve the Chilean lack of infrastructure. In the early nineties the Department of Public Work’s invested $300 million per year in infrastructure, which resulted in low productivity levels for Chile, generating economic losses that reached $2,300 million.
In this scenario, the private sector participated for the first time in the investment, maintenance and administration of public works, developing important connectivity projects for the country.
This innovative concessions system established an alliance between the private and public sector, allowing the Sate to transfer infrastructure recourses to other important projects with a higher social yield. At the same time, the system allows the private companies to recover their investment during the years they operate the concessions they have financed.
Today, the total investment in the system reaches US$ 10.000 millions, resulting in the construction of 51 concession projects, where there are 21 intercity highways, 6 interoperating urban highways, 12 airports, 3 prisons, 3 urban infrastructure projects, 4 urban transport infrastructure projects and other minor projects that have contributed enormously to Chile’s internal and external connectivity, improving the nation’s quality of life.
